Connect a KPI to Google Sheets

Connecting your KPI to Google Sheets will keep it in sync with a single cell in your spreadsheet. It will check the spreadsheet once an hour, and create a new measurement if the value in the cell has changed.

Start by creating a new KPI or editing an existing KPI and scroll down to the Integration section, then select the Google Sheet option from the dropdown. If this is your first time using the Google Sheet integration, you will be prompted to give Topicflow access to Google Sheets. Topicflow only needs "read" access to your spreadsheets, it will not have permission to edit/change the data.

Once you have authorized Topicflow, you will see a form where you can enter the spreadsheet id and choose which cell to sync with your KPI. To find the spreadsheet id, look at the URL of your spreadsheet and select the series of random letters and characters near the end. For example, the id in the URL

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Iez5Z4zSQZ8DqVAgA4Srn7fe7RZNDG1S50uwBv4CTXo/
is
1Iez5Z4zSQZ8DqVAgA4Srn7fe7RZNDG1S50uwBv4CTXo

To select a cell to sync, there are three options:

  1. Select "cell ID" and then enter something like B4 to always sync with cell B4
  2. Select "Right most column from row" and then enter something like "4" to sync with whatever cell containing a value in row 4 is the furthest to right. For example, if you enter a value for each month horizontally in your spreadsheet, this will select the value for the most recent month.
  3. Select "Bottom row from column" and then enter something like "B" to sync with whatever cell containing a value in column B is the farthest down in the spreadsheet. For example, if you enter a value for each month vertically in your spreadsheet, this will select the value for the most recent month.
